  • Excellent Chinese and traditional New Zealand meals. This is a 'must stop' on your way from the West Coast to Nelson. Beautiful views of the Buller River and Mount Owen. The food is superb, with John Siu cooking the Chinese dishes and Kim Siu cooking the New Zealand fare. These two will make you very welcome and their motel units are very comfortable too.

  • We had a lovely stay at the Owen River Tavern & Motels. The fried rice with black bean beef is a wonderful dish from the Mighty kiwi food.

  • Ed & Lee had a great diner here. Hospitality is the best. If we ever come back to NZ, we will be coming back to this place.

  • Mt. Owen, 1875m, is a pleasant prospect from the beer garden on a summer’s day, the sort of day that poor Thomas Brunner might have welcomed for drying clothes and equipment and mourning his loyal and, in the end, sacrificial Rover…
